The palm oil market
Description
Global palm oil production reached 71 million tonnes in 2018. Indonesia accounts for 57% of global production, ahead of Malaysia, Thailand, Nigeria and Colombia.
With 9 million tonnes of palm oil imported in 2018, the European Union is the world's 2nd largest importer, behind India but ahead of China. France imports over 300,000 tonnes a year.
The use of palm oil in cosmetics represents around 10% of the global market and 7% of the European market. It is used for its nourishing, emollient, foaming, protective and texturizing properties.
