Reuse in the cosmetics industry
Description
Worldwide, in 2023, an estimated 120 billion units of packaging were produced each year by the cosmetics industry, and according to an OECD report dating from 2022, only 9% of plastic waste (cosmetic or otherwise) was recycled.
In France, the cosmetics sector consumes 94,000 tonnes of packaging every year, 51% of which is plastic (53,000 t) and 26% glass. The sector's ambition is to reuse 20% of plastic by developing recyclable refills and bulk sales.
