Pochet du Courval: a first electric oven to decarbonise luxury goods
Description
In February 2024, the Pochet du Courval glassworks, which has been based in Normandy for 400 years, inaugurated the first electric furnace dedicated to luxury bottles in France, marking a major step towards decarbonisation. The furnace, powered by low-carbon electricity, consumes half the energy of a gas furnace, yet has a greater capacity. The group, which supplies major luxury houses, aims to reduce its emissions by 50% by 2033. Despite a €40 million investment and a solar contract, the high cost of electricity is holding back the expansion of the project. The CEO is calling for a more affordable energy tariff to support the ecological transition of manufacturers.
